Who Has Adhd And Is Happy With Their Career?
February 27, 2010 – 5:22 pmI have been diagnosed with this. I am terrible at math, and am trying to find a career that will make me happy. I’m very creative and hyperactivity isn’t really an issue any more. I tend to hyperfocus on things, and that’s when I start to get into trouble. I appreciate all suggestions.

I’ve been *told* that I have ADHD symptoms as well. Shrug.
You would be a good editor. Wink.
Seriously, though, you would not be comfortable in any occupation that was repetitious or boring.
Take the MBTI online and I can tell you a little more.

Saying that you are terrible in math courses is not true.
Have you ever thought that maybe your math teachers are not doing in a good job. I recall many students saying how much they fear and hate math because they get lost in the class. Of course, after meeting with a tutor like me, their fear and hatred goes away.
Have you considered a personal math tutor? If so, I live in NYC. Where are you? Have you considered buying math instructional dvds?
They are ways to defeat your fear and hatred of a subject.
In terms of ADHD, I have to look more into the subject.

Hi! I am not positively ADHD (no diagnosis) but I really have SO many of these symptoms. Isn´t it weird that so many people can´t figure out what´s “wrong” until they are 30 or 40? Anyway, like you, I´m also creative, and can focus on the small stuff too much. I´ve studied to be a teacher in Canada, but now live in Germany so I can´t use my credentials to teach here in a public school. We´ve opened our own tutoring and language school here, where I teach English to children and grown ups. This is fun because I am often able to set up each lesson as I want, and use different elements (we translate comics, learn songs etc) so it is always different. This satisfies my craving for doing new things all the time, and it keeps the kids really interested. They really like my lessons, I think because of this, and because I´m lively.
But I don´t teach all day! A few lessons a day is already enough – I need time to prepare and to wind down a bit afterwards, or between lessons. I must admit that teaching a whole day long would actually be too challenging for me – I mean because I do put so much into the lessons, but I also have 3 children and these are my main priority (so now I just teach one afternoon a week,…more is too much). If I stretch that limit too far, the whole family gets stressed because I just don´t have a grasp on it all anymore. I wish I was a super-mom sometimes, but I´m just not, and I´m glad that I don´t NEED to go work (for money)!
Part-time teaching might be something to consider – it could be for kids or adults, evening courses or in a school, whatever. I really like it because it gives me the flexibility I need.
I wish you all the best!
