I lived in the Rocky Mountains as a journalist for many years, by creeks, streams, ponds… you name it. Peace between the daily chase for stories.
Great way to make a living. Travel, too.
Hope you find what you like in your field, and get to live where you like to live.

I live on the outskirts of Chicago. It’ll be expensive to buy lakefront property, though, trust me. It’d be in the realm of 1 million +, even if you live far from Chicago. Personally I live about 15 minutes from Lake Michigan, in a suburb of Chicago. There’s nothing all too special about it, though, just like any other suburb.
If you want a cheap, peaceful place to live, look into a rural towns. Maybe you can even find one by a lake or river.

There have been people on the move from violence and crime for as long as there have been people. It’s so sad to say, but I doubt there is any place you can find absolute peace but I sure hope you’ll keep trying.
Think about it, how often have you heard of people moving into a neighborhood to get away from crime only to find their new home has been robbed. Sad, I know. As a writer, it might be cool to write about your experiences in finding a peaceful place. I’d read it.
Best of luck.
