When Is It Time To Find A New Job ? And Do I Change My Career Path?

February 15, 2010 – 10:52 am

I have worked for a company for 15yrs. I do like the kind of work I do but I feel like I have hit a brick wall. I got this job straight out of high school and worked my way up from a grunt to a package desiner with no college education. Now have advanced as far as they will let me and im boared with it. I can barely get myself out of bed to go anymore. I have a family that depends on me because I am the sole bread winner and we cannot afford a cut in pay or a move. Has anyone else been in this position and felt this way and what did you do?

  2. Apply for jobs that interest you. This takes dedication….have a resume ready. It say’s ALOT about you (GOOD) that you have stayed with the same job for so many years. You are dependable and dedicated. Hang in there something will come along. You also might consider checking out some local employment agency’s. And if you are asked by a potential employer why??? you are looking for a different position I don’t think it would hurt to say you have hit a brick wall promotion wise and wish to further yourself. Hope this helps. Good luck to you!!

  3. I got myself a sales job. Through that job, I was able to make enough money to start my own business. So, I’m an entreprenuer now, and I am making the big bucks.
Just keep positive and look at all the different opportunities that are available to you. You’ll find your way. Good luck!

  4. I like my job, almost anyone can do it, and get paid up to 3-5 times min wage! Drive a truck for an LTL company! :)
If you LOVE work (you don’t just drive at all LTL carriers, there is some dock work at times, or even all the time….), and can qualify for a CDL, then JUST DO IT! :)
You can make more than most fast food or restaurant managers!!!! You are home EVERY night and most weekends off unless you WANT to work more! Paid holidays! Paid Vacations! 401K, MED, DENTAL, VISION, more!!!!!

  5. Look for a new job that will challenge you.BUT do not quit your present job until you have a new job.

  6. It is different for me, because I do not have a family depending on me, but I am 35 years old, and I just started college last year. I realized that the only jobs I can get without a college education do not pay the kind of money I need, or offer me the challenge that I want. I can’t afford to go to school full time, because I still have to work, so it will probably take me a long time, but I think it will be worth it in the end. You only get one chance at life, don’t waste it on a job you hate.
