  2. My boyfriend didn’t go to college and he’s worked in telecommunications as a fiber optic specialist for about 5 years. that job included a lot of traveling and he finally decided to look for something else because of that. But if you like traveling that’s one type of job that has a lot of it. Now he works as a design person for a forest products company, which means he draws up the blueprints and does all the figures for people looking to build wood structures. that’s an office job, there’s not much travel involved at all except for an occasional training day like once a year.
So, even if some of that stuff isn’t up your alley, you may just need to research a bit and ask around in whatever industry interests you. You can probably find some sort of entry job and then work your way up.

  3. For each job you must have a high school diploma and a college degree. Not a GED. And it won’t happen “soon”. It takes years. 2 years worth of a degree, 20+ weeks in the academy/training depending on your state–and then months or weeks to find a job in a certain department.
My suggestion to you now is to volunteer with the fire dept or police. This will give you great experience to see if this is what you really want to do.

  4. Go to your local college or junior college and ask to speak to a career guidance counselor. You can also talk to your high school counselor. I wrote a career guide for engineering some time back but it is out of print. go to Amazon and your library and find some books.
Also, employment offices give career guidance.
