What do you do better than anyone else you know? Do you have a talent that doesn't seem like a talent to you but your friends always say that you do? Re-entering the work force is challenging to say the least, but if you start looking for jobs that fit your talents, and passions then it will be something you enjoy and not work. Take an inventory of all the things you have done over the years. Are you great at organization? Can you throw a party on a moments notice? Do you like to help others solve their problems? Can you teach anything to anyone? Do you enjoy bookkeeping, sales, or are you able to do a craft? Take time to assess your talents. Let your kids help they will tell you the truth about anything you ask, especially if it is about you. :-) Call a few of the employment agencies and make an appointment. They will run tests on you and find out what you can do or not do. This will be very helpful and you don't need to sign up unless you want to. Oh, by the way, forty is really still young.
