January 26, 2010 – 4:57 amI have to do a research paper on careers in psychology because that is what I’m interested in and I have to interview a psychologist. I am not really sure what to ask in this interview so I will appreciate the help, thanks.

ask about the education requirement, physchology license, what he/she does daily, what are the general client problems, what are the general recommendations for psychological problems, etc

First of all, you need to answer the most important question: WHY are you interested in psychology? Once you answer that, everything else should come along. For instance, if you decide you want to be a psychologist to help people, get specific:
“I want to help women who have been sexually abused as children and need help setting appropriate boundaries.”
Or:
” I want to be a criminal psychologist and diagnose and help the criminally insane so they can get the help they need and deserve to live normal, healthy lives.”
Would you rather help children? Abused children? ADD children?
Can you see where answering that question might help you begin?
After that, you might want to ask about college: Where did he (or she) go to school? How much did it cost? Were scholarships available? Can he dispense medicine? How much does it pay? Is the fielf wide open, or are psychologists a dime a dozen?
In any case, good luck!

What do you think it takes, to become a successful psychologist?
As a psychologist, what is the strangest think you have heard?
What are some of the characteristics and qualities one should have to make a great psychologist?
When did you know for sure that this is the profession for you?
