My Brother Is Extremely Smart, 13 Years Old, How Do We Help Him Find His Career?

February 10, 2010 – 10:54 pm

He’s surprisingly mature for his age and his WIS IQ (only my parents and the doctors know) is probably above 175. He is taking extra courses in math and science after school for free at a local university in a state grant program – and more and more he is becoming interested in two things:
1. His future career
2. Videogames
He could do anything he wants and money is not an issue, but how do we help him?

  2. Find out what he LIKES to do, then find a way to make money at it.
Whatever his skills are, just foster them… put him in programs that will grow that skill into a kid who’s an expert.
    The career will follow naturally.

  3. Encourage and instill a sense of purpose and practical reason within him. Being extraordinarily intelligent is not always the gift it might appear to be. Although it may confer an advantage in pursuits of academia and conceptual / mechanical knowledge, high intelligence can be a weight on a person’s character, especially at a young age when amongst peers and not yet capable of harnessing one’s mind.
Powerful assumptions might be made of someone with an IQ that high. but factors of success are still primarily based on habit, motivation, and passion. Variables like these will always be more significant in determining the course of a person’s life.

  4. i would advise that he stay away from web development. it’s a horrible job with very little reward/money.
i would suggest something that is more secure, and has potential to make a lot of money. perhaps the medical field.
