Is Anyone A Registered Nutritionist/dietician Who Can Tell Me About Their Career?
February 22, 2010 – 10:52 pmI’m considering going to school to become a Nutritionist and have been researching it. I found most career sites say to speak someone in that career to find out what they do on the job and the pro’s and con’s of the job. So, I’m wondering if someone in that career field would like to give me some advice on going into that career field and let me know pro’s and cons of that job.

Stay out of Clinical Dietetics if you want to make a lot of money or value job satisfaction. However, if you prioritize job security, it does that quite well. Working in hospitals or nursing homes is steady work, but it’s tough because the dietitician is there only because the employers are legally obligated to have you there. The court mandated service limits per patient are totally unrealistic. Something like 5 minutes per person. You can’t do your job well, and nobody cares. They just don’t want to get sued.
A Food Service career is much more satisfying. Find a job with a major food company, purveyor, or consultant. The work is usually in nutritional analysis of their product lines or Public Education. Your efforts are actually desired and valued. If you’re good at it, the pay is commensurate.
