credit has very little to do getting a job in most cases – I have never heard of any actual person tell me their credit was checked because of applying for a job

If the company requires a credit check then most likely they want to see good credit. Here is how you get rid of the collection account. First of all, depending on what state you are in (in California it is 4 years) you may not even owe the debt anymore. Go to http://www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/…
to find out what your statue of limitations is. Call the collection company back and get the name of the person you are speaking with and keep a log of time and date and what was said and say that you would like to cancel the arrangement that you made because after checking your records, you do not believe that you owe this debt. They will do and say whatever it takes to collect, even lye and say they will send a warrant for your arrest or take you to court , etc. If this is past the statue for your state then just ask them when this account went into default. Then tell them that accord to the statue of limitations for this debt in the state of …. this debt is too old and falls under the statue of limitations. If it is not past the statute (do not let them speak over you, just get louder) just ask ” I need you to send me a certified copy of the original wet ink contract that created this debt with you in order to validate the debt. Then put you demand in a certified letter and send it to them (not to a P.O. Box get the physical address). Also in the letter you can type “Cease and Desist Order” You can demand that they are not to call you at you home or cell or work. They are not to call you friends neighbors, relative or co-workers. They may only contact you be mail. And demand that this derrogatory account be taken off your credit as it is affecting your credit negatively or you will be forced to take legal action. 90% of these collections companies do not keep they original contracts which is what they need in court to validate the debt. Go to http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer… to get the actually law and you can quote it in your letter. I believe it is in section 809. Good luck. You can contact me if you need more info.
