How To Find Employment Or Career?

February 25, 2010 – 4:57 am

I have over 20 yrs health care experience, have an MBA and currently working on my DHA (Doctrate Healthcare Administration). I relocated to Hanford Ca last month and have been in search for employment. Daily I’m on Hotjobs, Monster, Careerbuilders just to name a few. I have mailed out about 20 resumes to different companies that I found in the phone book and nothing. Any suggestions on other ways to try to obtain employment and not just a job but one that may lead into a career?

  2. This is a hard time to find anything – trust me! Have you ever considered turning your experience into a sales position? My story was that I was with a bank – and as we all know they are going down the tubes! So, I became an Equipment Leasing Broker. Turned my sales ability into a money making machine! You more than likely have a lot of contacts in the industry combined with an MBA you have endless possibilities if you are willing to step out – Good Luck in your decisions!

  3. The biggest problem is that every year colleges and universities graduate thousands who need to find entry level jobs in every field. Unfortunately the number of jobs created by “Reaganomics” has never kept up with growth. Honestly, your best bet might be to try an become an apprentice plumber right now. You need to find a service shop that is staying busy during the construction downturn. You will start out for less than plumbers will work for, so there might not be as much competition from the journeymen that are unemployed. Your advanced degrees really don’t help you when all hiring is being done from the bottom. In fact they may hurt your chances of getting a job a lot.

  4. forget the resumes. Go to unemployment office in your local town. They have job search on computer or you speak to someone. I found it alot more successful speaking to someone.
I found 2 jobs going there.
one was an acting job working for the NJ military. i have been there for over 6 months and love it
the other is a comcast cable job in NJ. Pays very very well.
i started with no job now i have 2 jobs and lots of money.
Go to unemployment when you have about 1-2 hours to spare. trust me, it works. You will definately find a job that same day. They have lists of jobs everywhere thats hiring in every state, even overseas.

  5. No better way to let employers know you’re good than to start below your level of competence and wait for something to open up above you. Do a great job and you’ll be noticed. Don’t be shy about your aspirations – but don’t be pushy either.
    Good luck!
