How To Decide What Career Is Best For Me?

February 17, 2010 – 4:51 pm

I have a pretty good career but it was never where I wanted to be. I hate my career. I know there is something more for me. I just do not have any passion for anything anymore, so I have no direction.
Do you know how I can find some career direction? Any career tests or books you can recommend?

  2. A couple of books I highly recommend are Dan Miller’s – 48 Days to the Work You Love and Richard Nelson Bolles – What Color is Your Parachute.
Until you pick those up, here are a few areas in which to examine yourself to get a better idea where your passions are hiding.
1)Personality – Do you enjoy being around people or would you rather work independently on a project? Do you embrace adventure or resist change? Are you more creative or logical and factual?
2)Skills – What skills have you developed? Computers, writing, counseling, sales, marketing, designing? Come up with the top 10-20 things you feel confident doing.
3)Dreams & Passions – What do you value and dream about? What do you naturally enjoy doing (hobbies etc)? What books and magazines do you enjoy?
    Hope that helps!

  3. a lot of the tests online are crap. You just need to look deep within your self, ask yourself ” what am I good at” , “What do I enjoy” ,”What makes me happy”?
If you find the answer to those questions then you will have an answer for a new carrer.
Don’t make the decision in a split second. Ponder it for a few days or even a couple of weeks.
let me know how it goes. godluck
