How Much Will A Degree Obtained In The Army Though Goarmyed Help Me Find A Good Career After Ets?

February 1, 2010 – 5:09 pm

I am currently going attend University of Maryland-Asia through the GoArmyEd portal. I want a high-paying job (6 figures) in the mathematics fields when I get out. I joined the Army for its educational benefits but I keep hearing about how a degree I get here will be worthless later.

  2. Um, your degree if you stick with Uof M will be from Uof M, not “goarmyed”…
You can change your SOCAD agreement and switch schools to another 2 or 4 year college within the network.
That degree is just the same as any other degree… Why would you think otherwise?
The Army doesn’t grant degrees. Colleges do.
Go sit down with an Ed counselor, have them come up with a math intensive 4 year SOC agreement, and follow that agreement.
Again, the college you go to is up to you. The Army just pays for it, and gives you access to them while you are serving.
Nobody is keeping you from using your GI Bill to finish up your math degree at another college once you are out. Or get a higher degree.

  3. Like franky said, your degree is from a college or university, not the Army. It is worth whatever a degree from that college is worth. The main thing that will get you a good job is your expertise in the area, not the name on your diploma. But if you are looking for a 6 figure job in Math, you are going to need a PhD and several years of experience. Good Luck.
