How Long Do I Need To Be In Temp Employment Before The Company Needs To Give Me A Permanant Contract?

December 12, 2009 – 8:50 am

I have been in continuous employment for a year – I am employed directly by the company not an agency. How much longer do I need to work here before they are obliged to give me a permanent contract?

  2. A company is not obliged to give you a permanent contract – there are many employees who have been working on an “ongoing temporary basis” for years

  3. I’m fairly sure that after 1 year of employment you are deemed to be a permanent worker and have all the rights that go with that.
However, bear in mind that most “permanent” workers can be sacked quite easily, especially in small companies.

  4. there is no set term limit or law that states how long an employer may be employed by proxy before he/she is required to be given a full time employment contract through the parent company, its at the discretion of the employer, you may never become “fully” hired

  5. They don’t need to and are not “obliged” to give you a permanent contract at all.

  7. I believe that it depends on the company you are working for. All companies are different and have there own set of rules.
