How Does A Career Fair Work, And How Do I Find A Local One?

January 5, 2010 – 4:57 am

I’m 19 and I live on my own so I need something that is a little more then flipping burgers are wendys. I need something where I make at least $12/hr to support myself. I’m a college student, not yet really qualified to do anything. Should I find a local career/job fair? How do they work? I mean I literally only have cashiering experience so I don’t think anyone would take me seriously there. What should I do?

  2. Many job centers sponsor monthly career/job fairs, try going there. If they aren’t aware of any they will definitely have the resources to find them. You could also try the placement office at the college you are attending. Both are a wealth of information. Some employment websites may list them also.
Most will target a specific industry or group of industries. Potential employers set up booths and individuals wander through the booths and talk with reps from the various companies attending. Be sure to bring several copies of your current resume to pass out. Job fairs are very similar to going to the county fair and walking through all the vendor barns.
