How Can You Find Out If You Have Been Black Balled In A City In Your Career Industry?

January 12, 2010 – 11:26 pm

I have had lots of good interviews with second and third interviews, but i can’t seem to land a job. I don’t think i am doing something wrong in the interview if so, i wouldn’t get the second interview. Not only am i not getting the job, when i call for results, i don’t get an answer. I have a feeling that the last comapny i worked for has black balled me in the industry in the city where i live. I want to know how i can find out if this is true.

  2. You could have a friend call your previous employer posing as a prospective employer, if they are giving negative information, you have grounds for a lawsuit, which won’t really help you: future employers will see you have a suit against a previous employer and be more reluctant to hire you.
I would suggest doing a background check on yourself as well, just to make sure nothing is coming up that isn’t correct.
    Good luck!

  3. Well I used to have that same problem. I thought I was being black balled myself by my last employer. The truth was that I was my own worse enemy. I started to reflect on my interviewing style and went to this site: http://www.careerbuilder.com/JobSeeker/R… I realized the reason why I wasn’t getting any further than the first interview was because I didn’t interview well. I did not fully prepare myself and used to just wing it. However,I did a self evaluation and revamped my interviewing style. Now I have a great job with international corporation. You could still investigate if you’re being black balled. However, make sure the problem doesn’t lie within you. Good luck!

  4. There are companies that, for a minimal fee, will do a reference / background check for you, then report the results. Make sure to read the fine print (as you should do before paying for any kind of services).
